I read your profile about what languages you speak.

Because the US colonized the Philippines from about 1902 until 1945 and became an important allied nation of the Philippines, English became more important than Spanish here. Spanish is no longer a compulsory subject in schools here. Therefore, most Filipinos know at least some English but cant speak Spanish.
