Nov 23, 2010 4:59am Bonjour NaNoWriMo Participant! The 24th of November looms soon, and that would mark the 4/5th mark of the month. Which also means that you should ideally be around 40,000 words for your NaNoWriMo project! For those who are ahead, good for you. The 24th of November looms soon, and that would mark the 4/5th mark of the month. Which also means that you should ideally be around 40,000 words for your NaNoWriMo project! For those who are ahead, good for you. For those who are behind, the race ain’t over till the clock strikes 11:59:59 pm. Looking for more help for your plots? I can’t stress this enough, but try your best to participate in your region’s activities. Word wars and word sprints are very common, and sitting down to finish a bout or fifty will definitely do positive numbers for your word count! Finding it difficult to write? Shut down all the distractions! Disable your sound notifications of IMs, turn off IRC, minimize Firefox (or Chrome) with your 5000 Kongregat tabs, throw up some music that doesn’t distract you (Stardust soundtrack! :D) and start pounding out those words! Remember, for NaNoWriMo, quantity over quality! Still finding trouble in getting things going or difficult to shut out your inner editor. Disable your backspace key. That’s right. Go do it. :) This is also a friendly reminder to keep track of your words and update them the best you can in terms of the word count. Come the 25th of November, you will be required to validate your words. Watch this space, as more information will be given if you need it. Have fun, get writing, and I’ll ignore the many cups of coffee you have already (or neglected to) drink! show less

Writing a novel in this time span is definitely not easy, and something that is of worthy mention. Of course, people never really manage to do anything about it. Advice seems plentiful, and I have handily compiled a set of tips and suggestions in this post here. If you need some suggestions or help, feel free to browse through that post and see how it will help you. On the writing aspect, some of you may prefer to write longhand on a piece of paper, or type your words out like some Beethoven pounding musical scores on his own keyboard. If you are still looking for a means to reduce the distractions of IMs, Kongregate, Email, Kongregate, Google Docs, ArmorGames, Kongregate, Plants vs Zombies, Bejewelled, Call of Duty, Kongregate, homework or Kongregate, I highly suggest you browse to this post and scroll down to look for a minimalistic writing program. Throw formatting out of the window for once and just spam words! :) With all the technicalities out of the way, here’s the good bit. 50,000 is definitely the goal set out by OLL for NaNoWriMo, but what if you’re struggling. Short of coming out with fifty million and one sub-plots, you may feel free to set your own goals. If you have a custom target for NaNoWriMo this month, please do inform me, and I can adjust your word counter on the front page of the thread as required for your benefit. As for those who are taking the plunge into neverwhere 50k word writing, keep at it, have fun, and participate in all the activities that your MLs have prepared for you in the NaNoWriMo forums! Remember to update your NaNoWriMo Word Counts and to encourage others to participate or cheer you on! NaNoWriMo is an international event, and I’m sure, if you look hard enough, you’ll find people as crazy or delirious as you are. If you can’t, then you know it is high time to start a new writing project in your own community! For those who are interested in statisicfying the entire world, Laxaria has (tried) to start a means of tracking word sprint data for everyone participating in Word Sprints. More information can be found here. It is not mandatory, but if you are interested in participating in NaNo related activities without leaving your own home, Twitter and the #NaNoWriMo IRC Chat, or the deviantArt #NaNoWriMo channel are definitely good places to start. Track your word sprints, and pass them to Laxaria! With all that said and done, have fun (:D), get writing, and I’ll see you at the 30,000 word milestone! show less

Nov 5, 2010 8:09pm Hello Kongregate NaNoWriMo Participant! It is nearing the 6th of November, which means you should be about one-fifth of the way to the targeted goal of 50,000 words. It is nearing the 6th of November, which means you should be about one-fifth of the way to the targeted goal of 50,000 words. By 11.59pm today, you should be on track to 10,000 words if you plan to keep pace with the daily suggestion of 1,667 words a day. Now, while this isn’t much of a pep-talk, keeping up with your word counts is definitely not an easy task. Participate in hosted NaNoWriMo activities, such as Word Sprints, Word Wars and the like, especially in your home region forums on the NaNoWriMo forums. You might meet people who are just as crazy as you trying NaNoWriMo for the first time, or looking for a new challenge. Make new friends, and for all you know, your neighbour could be doing NaNoWriMo with you! If you find plot lines fraying and words refusing to be typed, fret not! Seventh Sanctum has all sorts of generators, from character names to plot ideas, to fuel your typing needs. Who cares if you are writing a fiction novel on dragons? No harm in adding in flying cars if you so wish! :) The end may seem far away from sight, but each word puts you a small step further. Can’t think of anything else to write? Utilise your ability to explain, elaborate and exaggerate with a multitude of long, colourful, repetitive or alliterative description. Add in a dream scene (or fifty!), or talk about a car chase. Have your Main Character (MC) go on some long journey to the convenience store while you wait for more ideas. Keep writing, even if it means detailing his dinner to the last morsel. Keeping the rhythm going is more important than trying to pull off 3,000 words/day to catch up! All in all, the most important thing is to have fun! All the best, good luck, and be prepared to have your shouts spammed by me over the course of the next month! :) show less

For this particular project, I challenge you to write an essay or speech on If I could address the world. You are welcome to try different styles and approaches to the topic, welcome to record yourself speaking and you are welcome to share your thoughts and feelings over the entries posted by other participants. I look forward to your participation, and I look forward to hearing from you! show less

Oct 12, 2009 7:47pm Basically, I want you to make it look more like a star. For the background, if you look at the star rating on the site, there’s three images; one for unselected, one for roll over, and one for background. unselected = yellow selected = orange background = clear

Oct 11, 2009 8:32pm Thanks, but Can you make each side more pronounced? Also, I need one for the background color.
