The simple man – By

Once upon a time,
There lived a simple man,
He had a small axe,
he was called Dan

He was a woodcutter
A humble job, indeed
He always said," I
have all that one may need"

He was content
Had nobody to fear
No troubles he can’t solve
No hardship, he can’t bear

But, oh! one day
A rich man came there
He had silver on his clothes
Gold ornaments in his hair

He went to poor Dan
And he envied Dan’s simple life
Little by little, his heart was pierced
By jealousy, that evil knife.

He plotted, and planned,
And called Dan to his place
“You simple man, take this bag of gold,
And go back to your place.”

Dan was speechless,
He thanked the great (?) man
The moment he came out
Towards his house, he ran

He put the gold away
Under his rough bed
He covered it with different clothes,
blue, green, yellow, red.

He stayed up all night.
His axe in his hand.
“who knows when a thief comes in
So many of them in this land!”

He stayed awake for 2 weeks
He grew pale from worry
His happy days, his peaceful mind
was nothing more than history

Eventually, he died a sad death.
A rich man’s death, he died
“Protect my gold!”
was the last thing he cried
