Dec 19, 2011 3:50pm Hey. I didn’t mean to say the game was bad. It’s not. Just for me personally I felt like I was doing the same thing over and over but it was just harder each time. I know a lot of effort went into it and for what it is, you did a great job. I hope you continue to make games, because while Coins wasen’t my personal type of game, it was nice to see something that wasen’t a tower defense or rpg. You made something new, and that alone is worth a thanks. I am still a fan of yours. show less

That being said, the fact that Flood Fill is also simple yet genius leads me to wonder how someone gets ideas that are simultaneously so obvious yet so innovative. Just out of curiosity, how long did it take you to create Coins and Flood Fill? If I’m ever going to attempt another puzzle game, I will have to follow your example of simple and straightforward yet also unique and fun. And congratulations on the badges! show less

The part that takes weeks is just layers and layers of polish to make it look good. Coins took significantly longer than it should have because we were developing for Mobile devices at the same time and ran into an unbelievable number of problems on Android and iOS.

Dec 17, 2011 6:54am About “Walkthroughs are for the weak“: Actually, the idea is that a game is supposed to be fun. And if fun gets too low because it’s too hard, a walkthrough helps get over that bad spot.. Of course if it’s used too much, it becomes too easy. Which is just as much not fun. Because what point does it serve to make the player’s last experience with the game one where he wanders off in frustration? That can’t be right… ;) About the skipping: Maybe you can allow playing any of the three earliest still unsolved levels. (So if 1 2 3 _ 5 6 _ 8 _ are solved, you could play any of 4, 7 or 9, but not 10.) That way one can switch a bit around, and learn new tricks that then are useful to the one problematic level. About me figuring it out: See that’s the thing: I gave up. With only two non-aced levels. And probably won’t play again. It just was too little fun, I wasted enough time by far, plus there are loads of games one click away. And that sucks, doesn’t it? show less

If a puzzle makes someone frustrated to the point of quitting, they probably shouldn’t really be playing it in the first place.

I played through the first 3 levels of coins, stuck through it, and aced them all. And then when the new coins come into play I got stuck, gave up, and am glad a ‘Solve now’ button didn’t appear, because it means I can come back to it and enjoy a little mental struggle. :L Whenever a solution button is available, for me, someone who doesn’t really play puzzle games, I treat it like an action game. Click, click, click, win. show less

Nov 2, 2009 12:03pm I specially like your game because we had to make a backtracking algorithm in some practice class in the university for such task. That different way of “cheating” was quite fun :3
