If you press up when you are riding a dactyl, you can jump off of if and steer yourself towards another nearby one before they decide to just drop you.

I'm too used to games where the jump button is spacebar..... So I keep hitting the spacebar as a reflex and reseting to the last checkpoint. Maybe a less easy-to-hit button might be better?
