During my childhood I was a meek, timid girl with little confidence or self-esteem. I knew no life other than one of an exile, dependent and I was in constant fear of my older brother Viserys. He was the only family I ever knew, but he was often a cruel guardian, prone to mood swings and fits of violence. I was his property.
He marriaged me to Khal Drogo which was the turning point in my life, I adaptied to life in a Dothraki khalasar it was difficult, but it allowed me to begin to achieve independence from my abusive brother, and I emerged from the experience as a strong, confident, courageous woman. Nevertheless, I has not forgotten what it was like to be a victimized child, and my experiences have left me with a compassion that is unusual in a would-be conqueror. I am determined to bring justice through my reign, and has made ending slavery a particular priority. Despite my strong moral compass, however, I am capable of dealing ruthlessly with my enemies.
It was often said that the Targaryen kings tended to be either madmen or brilliant rulers, and we Daenerys seem to have inherited a natural gift for leadership as my birthright. My followers generally regard me with great respect and love, and I am often compared to my deceased brother Rhaegar, a similarly charismatic leader who was known for his skill, determination, scholarly mind and strong sense of justice. My primary weakness as a ruler is my youth and relative inexperience; however, I have a keen intellect and learns quickly from my mistakes.
Although I have matured enough to recognize that Viserys was weak, cowardly and cruel, his abiding obsession with regaining the crown he felt was his birthright has instilled in me, a similar belief that reclaiming the Seven Kingdoms is both my right and my duty as the last of the Targaryens, and it remains the paramount goal of my life. Nevertheless, Westeros is a foreign land that I have never seen with her own eyes.-’
