Mar 2, 2009 6:55am At first I was like “they must be cheating” because it’s not (humanly) possible to get that good without playing all day every day. So I googled “cheat globetrotter xl” and found this: http://pop.youtube.com/watch?v=d79pzrh8kDw There ya go! Instant strike no matter where you click. I let Manfred know, but it’s hard to outwit a determined hacker. Nope, haven’t played on dschini recently. But this week should be much more free than the last! I’ll try to mount a challenge to you! show less

Feb 25, 2009 4:54am “Those two guys at the top” — yeah I saw that too! Felt good :) Alright, I’ll see you on Crafics site, eventually. Once I’m past this week I’ll be able to get my game back on.

Feb 24, 2009 8:45am Yeah, so work caught up with me. I’d like to come back to this eventually though. Or maybe we should move the official competition onto the game’s home site? There’s someone else to beat over there, and you don’t need to squint as much :P

Feb 17, 2009 2:28pm Back in action. Couldn’t fix firefox so I installed Google Chrome. It’s awesome, fast and no memory bloat. Starting to play again this game seemed really hard! I managed a 33k but it was pretty lucky…

Feb 17, 2009 4:55am Globetrotter loads the background now, and then just stops. I can still practice on its home site though :) This adware finished by corrupting my Firefox installation and turning IE into a casino-suggesting-machine. Guess I’d better reinstall. Feb 16, 2009 9:28pm Hmmm. So my browser got hit by some adware and I can’t even play! Just checked the scoreboards and saw that you have equaled my all-time strikes total, and taken the all-time wins lead. That was quite an effort!

Feb 16, 2009 4:12pm 34.6K. Well done, indeed. I won’t tell you my top-secret trick for Novosibirisk now :) Is the city-selection entirely random? I swear I see Stockholm several times per game, but Langzou only once in a blue moon. But of course we humans are notorious for seeing patterns where none exist. Anyways. My turn again!

Feb 16, 2009 8:34am I agree, those pale maps (7&9?) are unecessarily brutal. Can’t see the coast, can’t see lakes. My feeling now is that the “real” game doesn’t start until the borders are gone :P I probably shouldn’t do this, but here’s my trick: I try to block in the north-south and east-west position of cities like Nov… show moreI agree, those pale maps (7&9?) are unecessarily brutal. Can’t see the coast, can’t see lakes. My feeling now is that the “real” game doesn’t start until the borders are gone :P I probably shouldn’t do this, but here’s my trick: I try to block in the north-south and east-west position of cities like Novosibirisk using “landmarks” like coastal features and lakes. For instance, I now think of Wuluqi (or whatver) as being due north of Calcutta and East of a cluster of lakes. As I’m playing through the beginning levels I’m always trying to figure out how I could find the cities once the borders are gone… I don’t know how you do it, but I would be lost without those kinds of tricks! You guys clearly have more talent than I. Oh. And on the game’s home site, someone has a high score of 36k. That’s like 65 5x and 10 3×. Insane. show less

Feb 14, 2009 7:58pm Back to you again. A 700 point leap to 34k! I feel like I’ve got new wind in my sails now that I can finally locate Wulumuqi when the borders are gone. That city drove me nuts. AND I finally got Honolulu at 0km. Once.

Feb 14, 2009 11:38am No rest for the wicked. It’s getting really hard to score this high, I have to admit. I feel like I’m fighting my mouse as much as I’m fighting my knowledge! But there are still some cities I don’t have down, especially when the borders go. What’s your least favourite city? Honolulu drives me crazy because I never 0 km it, the “right” pixel must be water. That Svalbard one too, I feel like it keeps wiggling around to prevent me from getting the 5x :P About the badges, you’re probably right. The game is really hard to get started on since there are so many cities, and you have to be a special kind of person to derive entertainment from pinning the tail on a global donkey. Oh well! We’ll see what happens. show less

Feb 13, 2009 2:04pm Aight. Left my two cents. Now I think the game needs more cities :P BTW, do you zoom when you play? I do sometimes after a guess to see where the city really is, but never before.

Feb 13, 2009 7:08am Hmm. I couldn’t find where to go for the Badge recommendation thread! I’m not generally concerned with achievements but I’ll support ’em for this game.

Feb 13, 2009 7:05am I’m not done yet, don’t worry :) 100 measly points! I don’t mind wasting time on this game since it has actually improved my geography AND my pixel-hunting skills enormously.

Feb 12, 2009 1:58pm 31.9K, close, but not close enough. Yesterday a friend poured some ketchup on his plate and I said “your ketchup resembles the United Kingdom”. Later my girlfriend mentioned Guatemala and before she could finish her sentence I had visualized the country and pinned the capital. Hmmm…

Feb 12, 2009 6:25am Alright. Game on. But I’ve got real work to do so we’ll see whether I make any progress today.

Feb 11, 2009 12:22pm Hey! I gave you longer to rest that that! Only one try, eh? That’s not especially encouraging :P Well, we’ll see what happens next. I calculate the theoretical maximum at around 38k, so there’s still some room for competition…

Feb 11, 2009 10:21am Well, looks like you’ll have to get back to work! I didn’t think I had a winning game, especially after blowing “Toulouse” of all places.
Llapgochmaster
Feb 10, 2009 7:10am Yeah, I think you’ve earned a break. We’ll see what’s waiting when you get back ;) The high score on the game’s homepage was at 34k when I checked! They play on a higher-res map though…
Llapgochmaster
Feb 10, 2009 6:32am Oh, yeah — I get a kick out of strikes too. Especially cities like Alice Springs or Malatya that are in the middle of nowhere since I’m pretty much just guessing. I get most of my strikes on coastal cities and islands.
Llapgochmaster
Feb 10, 2009 6:28am 30,953! I had this feeling that if I didn’t manage to break 30k last night that you or Tasselfoot would beat me to it. Well done!

Feb 10, 2009 4:16am Thanks for the heads up, guys. For some reason I thought strikes give some extra score (they should imo), but at least it’s funny to get spot on whenever a city appears for the time in the game. I don’t usually pay much attention to the scores while I play, I just hit the cities on the map, bang bang bang :D
