Sorry for taking so long to get back to destroying you.
First off, I do in fact see my friends in real life. First off, I do in fact see my friends in real life. I see them every day in school, go to parties with them, hang out at each other’s houses, etc. We also all have a dnd meeting each week, which, in my opinion, is the most social experience one can possibly have with one’s friends. The fact that we play online with each other adds to our social experience, instead of replacing it. And while it may be easier for most people to have a console LAN, the fact that most of us are on a FIRST Robotics team means that we have a bunch of computers lying around, making a PC LAN very possible.
Moving on to games: First of all, I strongly disagree with you about it being easy to get good at Battlefield. As an example, I and two of my friends have played approximately the same amount of Bad Company 2. I am just slightly above average, one of my friends can barely pull of a 0.5 k/d, and another one was in the highest leagues for BattleField 2142 and is disappointed if he gets less than 4 k/d in BC2. After 120 hours, we are still wildly different levels, and 2 out of the 3 of us are still not excellent at it. Also, I am extremely curious to hear what you DO consider a serious game, if the two most popular realistic FPS’ are too casual.
About sticky aim. I am aware that consoles do not actually aim for you. I meant that sticky aim helped you aim at your target. I have also played console games and have experienced the sticky aim for myself. It makes a big difference. I have heard complaints from console gamers that the sticky aim has messed them up because it made them aim at the wrong person. I can look at a game being played with no context and tell if it is a PC or console game because the lack of precision on the console, even with sticky aim makes shots that on the PC would be very normal exceptional on the console. Also about aimbots. Most modern PC games do a very good job of blocking hacks, or at the very least, letting players kick those who are hacking out of their games.
As a final note, I am currently away for a couple weeks at a camp for learning to program video games. Everyone here knows what they are talking about, and the three people who have looked over my shoulder while I have been writing this think that you are a dick. show less
Come on, I spent a lot of time on that other shout, you have to respond, either with some form of admission or easily refuted rebuttal. You can’t just say nothing!
So earlier, you left me a message about how I was an arrogant douche for not liking console games and saying that Bad Company 2 was a pro game. I come to you with tidings of a thing called “mic chat.” It is true, consoles are more portable than pc’s, meaning that they can be taken from place to place easily. All your friends can go over to someone’s house and play on the same tv. Great. Meanwhile on pc, all my friends (not just 3 friends, like on consoles) can go online and talk to/play with each other using our headsets. None of us has to move, we all have 100% of the screen to work with (instead of playing in 1/4 of the screen) we all get our preferred settings, controls, we all play with our personal profiles, and we can play anytime we want. We play with each other almost every night.
Now that we have eliminated the antisocial point in your argument, we move on to your saying Bad Company 2 is a casual game. I think you may have the definition wrong. World of Goo is a casual game. Braid is a casual game. Most things on Kongregate are casual games. BC2 is not a casual game. Perhaps, instead, you meant BC2 is a less-serious fps? There were a number of game tournaments at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX), which is the single most popular video game convention in the country. Among these tournaments were 2 BC2 tournaments, including the world’s first 3d gaming tournament. In comparison, there was only 1 Team Fortress 2 tournament. There was also a Modern Warfare 1 tournament. There was a combined total of 0 Halo and Modern Warfare 2 tournaments. Now, if you have played BC2, you might be confused as to why everyone thinks its so great when they could play MW2 instead. This is because, if you did play it, you played it on a console. On pc, all my friends and I enter the same game, join the same squad, and then use this new thing they came out with called “tactics.” In MW2, Most of the time the goal is to kill as many people as you can before you die. In BC2, when working as a team, your goals become more specific, such as keep your engineers healed and defibrillating them if they die until they can destroy the enemy tank, or giving your squad covering sniper fire while they plant the bomb on the point. Bad Company 2 is a very serious and the most skillful fps released recently.
One last thing you might not know about console fps’ is that they aim for you. The developers realized that the control stick was entirely insufficient for aiming, so every fps released on consoles contains code to lock on to enemies that you are aiming in the general direction of. The only exception to this is BC2.
Finally, onto your point about me being an elitist douche. I’m not elitist so much as well-informed. And according to the Kongregate announcement you received it appears that I am not the douche here. show less
