You have to use a Portal Scroll each time you want to go to the shop, and if you get enoguh money you can buy the "Emporium Preferred Customer Badge", which will allow you to teleport to the shop once per level. It costs a lot though, but worth it if you have trouble getting scrolls.

@Virsteinn if it were like that, then when you/I/we have a 3% chance danger when recruiting someone, or even scouting and your 'main' character dies.. that'd totally be fair.
