Either the first one or the third… the part where Snake must shoot Sniper Wolf or The Boss in the field of white flowers. The game leaves you with no choice but to kill… that always pains me, they take away your right to choose between life or death. I saw there was one tree I didn’t have to burn to get around (I could swim around it…. it didn’t need to die for me to progress) made me want to try and complete the game with an eco friendly, bloodless adventure. Like maybe the wand doesn’t “kill” enemies, more like puts them to sleep, and using the fire to push aside hostiles. Handy… there could be a solution… I just didn’t see anything quite so obvious when battling the bosses, although the one boss in the volcano doesn’t drop anything when you kill it, and it’s possible to get in and out with the spear and the dark armor without killing the bosses… the only boss you seem to need to kill is the one that gives you the wand. And the dungeons that block you in… the only way out is through the boss chamber. I’d like an alternative is all. Otherwise I love the game… it’s very challenging trying not to kill anything. show less

Honestly, though, it just wasn’t really what I was going for XD I wanted you to kill everything and do all of that stuff for a couple reasons: 1) your character doesn’t know better. You have a sense of morality because you’ve lived life, but you’re just playing through the role of a character that doesn’t have that sense of morality. He’s doing what is easiest, which is to just brute-force it. 2) It would have made me have to add a lot to the game, which would have taken more time, and also taken away from it a bit. There’s not really a moral or effect to the game if you go “oh, I’ll be nice” after killing the first boss, and then just go through the game doing that haha. I dunno, I understand what you’re talking about, but I’m happier that I didn’t add a “nice” way of beating the game, even in retrospect. show less![]()

But if there was a sequel to seedling, I wonder if watcher would be there or not, since you could either kill him or not, and at first I thought goreback was the frozen monster but that wouldn’t make sense because he was slayed by sardol ( I think) and that goreback was a relic monster and he wouldn’t be evil show less![]()

Though the controls felt clunky sometimes I think I understood thats the feel you were going for to really make it a “retro game”. The whole game has to be centered around it, as you have to make sure nothing breaks the “feel” you’re making. I can’t give you any direct instructions on how to do this other than trying to pick out a small part of a movie, game, book, song, etc. that really describes the feeling you want. For example, LoZ:LttP really captured the sense of discovery and imagination I wanted in Seedling—to pinpoint it, I loved falling down the whole in the beginning, because it added a whole new dimension to the game that I didn’t know about. It meant that there were alternative entrances to things, like hidden areas, as well as an underground to much of the world. Basically, it made me realize that there was more than met the eye, and that discovery was crucial. For that, I basically tried to mirror that feeling with my own elements in Seedling, and that’s why a lot of people relate it to LoZ—it gives the same feeling, while still being different. I wish I could give you more of a script for how to do it, but that really is the best I can do! show less![]()
