I just wanted to say that I understand where you are coming from and your frustration with extra content being located on other sites outside of Kongregate. We want Flash games to stay free!

I also agree… and disagree. I’m never going to make a game and make it entirely pay to play or a crippled demo, ever. I enjoy being able to play all the free flash games out there just as much as you do- that’s why StormWinds has the whole main game available all the way to the final boss. But as I said I disagree too, games cost a lot of time (and money) to make. StormWinds took a total of 6 months working full time with no other job to produce, it’s over 21,000 lines (400 pages) of code! And I want to make even better and bigger games than this in the future!

Not that I can’t get money other ways such as through sponsorship. But two big issues come up. The first is, why make a huge long game like stormwinds when I could make a quick small game such as starshine and get the same amount of money. The second is this: what better games could I be making if I had a better budget? I think we’d both agree there is a big difference between low budget and high budget movies, it works the same way with games. You’ve seen what is possible on low budgets, what could we make with bigger ones?

I’m always striving to find new ways to find the money to make great games, but still make them free to the players- by hosting the small amount of EC on ArmorGames.com, we can do that (If you’ll recall in SW 1.5 you had to pay $5 to get the EC) In the end though, the extra content is just that, extra content. If you don’t want to go over to ArmorGames to play the bonus campaign or experiment with cheats, you certainly don’t have to. Don’t pretend like it’s just a demo or crippleware, I’ve loaded the game with far more content than 99.99999999% of the other games on this site. I hope you’ll reconsider your rating and consider judging the game for what IS on Kongregate, not the tiny portion that is off it- and understand that by using this business model we can ultimately make better free games for you the player.

Cheers

@unleash1: it's not just you. Museum still needs a buff. For example, with all but 2 badges, Museum 1 = 266 GP per day. Museum 2 gives +30%, or 346 GP per day, for a net increase of 80. Museum 2 costs 2150, so 2150 / 80 = 27 days before the upgrade cost is recuperated. Terrible, terrible, terrible investment.

Hmmm... I wonder if the whole "dream world" thing has something to do with the leafs on the title screen. ;)
