You’re on the right track – I’d reduce both the number of birds and the frequency of their appearance so that they’re more like a random event than certain death.

I made simple maze game in LiveSwif, which is a free flash development program. Everything else I’ve made has been made with Flash CS3, which costs a good bit of money. If you want some more info on LiveSwif, leave me a shout!
