regarding your comment on ranged units on EW 4, the “problem” of them moving forward like that could actually be an advantage with one unit. If Popo inches close enough to the enemy castle, all the spikes from his shot will hit the castle, doing maximum damage

On epic war 4 the reason ranged creatures move forward is that you have set them to assault so they try to reach the enemy base. therefore (like other creatures) they move forward evry time they attack. this is on purpose and will not be edited in the game.
