underway, the bar thingy on the left counts number of tiles you have removed. Each level takes lvl * 25 tiles to be cleared. Yes, new tiles come from bottom if you click on bottom half and from top if you click on top half. It depends where was the tile you clicked on so you can sometimes choose which way is more useful.
