In one particular experiment, called Milgram’s experiment; people would be given the role as teacher and on the other side of the wall a “person” would be answering questions asked by the “teacher”. If the person that wasn’t the teacher got a question wrong, they would then recieve a shock. The shock progressed in power with each and every wrong answer questions asked by the “teacher”. If the person that wasn’t the teacher got a question wrong, they would then recieve a shock. The shock progressed in power with each and every wrong answer. Some people would argue in whether this experiment was ethical or not, but in my opinion I could swing either way. I can say it isn’t ethical on the behalf of the people that have to deliver the shocks and then feel bad about it afterwards, and also I can agree that experiments have twisted bases, and points trying to be proved. But also I can say that I think it is ethical, because in all fairness the people are told they are going to be delivering shocks and if they go on ahead, then its their fault for agreeing to the experiment. I also can say its ethical because people are given the option to stop when they feel they have shocked the “person” enough. In summary, experiments like these are a real coin toss in the topic of ethics. Milgram’s experiment and others like it, though having wierd parts to it have helped us to learn how humans behave when given authority.
