I found only one thing worth notice or reporting. If ball starts going too fast, it sometimes passes right through paddles.
Let me guess. You check location of centre of ball and if it intersects with paddle, you reverse horizontal speed? If yes then movement steps are so large that at high speed it can cross width of paddle in one step, thus avoiding bounce. You need to either cap max speed, shorten steps, or change the way you check bounce condition. I don't know where exactly you are going with this game but, unless you turn that into a feature, you should fix it while it's easy to do so.
