The center of the buttons changes the number. The edges cycle through the face, the color and the selected number.

The laundry basket with colored squares and numbers is so very unreliable as to when it works and when it doesn't for me. I have both books, all girl/kitty drawings visible, I get the idea of it but sometimes it cycles 0 1 face, and sometimes all the numbers before back to color square. I'm on Chrome.
