Wow, I thought that after opening the door in the cave and solving the wall puzzles the game would be over, instead it was only halfway through! Good job.

Love these games. Don't fully understand the story, but still enjoy playing. When the series is over, would like to see an explanation of everything.

So its a family curse connected to the William's 'life and death' elixir. After they drink from it they become part of the Shadows, transdimensional beings able to alter and exist through the past and the future. William is the first to drink the elixir, he is the first Shadow, next is Aldous, the Crow and so on. Furthermore you can search for Aldous Huxley's 'The Doors of Perception' in Wikipedia.
