good concept. so-so execution. For some reason the music reminds me of the maple garden level in sonic 3... just for that the rating gets bumped up to 4 on 5 for me :P.
I gave a love/hate relationship with this game. The love part: good balance, great level tree, gameplay is top-notched.
the hate: cut-through level and juggling. I'm not a zealot in regards to juggling and I usually manage to beat levels that require juggling (although getting a perfect win is sometimes impossible) but cut through is an annoying level that goes against what TD is supposed to be. You lose the whole strategy/pacing and get a simple reflex game. not cool. Anyway 4 stars for me.
Fun game!
Too short. Needs a reset/start over button. Bigger maps would be fun. different game modes would be fun.
I would see a sequel start off with a world map and then you would go from country to country or continent to continent like pandemic 2. You could move on to another continent when a certain level of destruction is achieved.
Each continent could have a special unit: Americas has more units with guns, Africa has tougher population, Asia bigger maps, Europe has more buildings and better virus resistance to slow down infection, Oceania has lower population to infect...
Tips for people stuck on 9:
1- place game on easy. badges dont requires a certain difficulty level. 2- create LOTS of geothermal plants. 3-create a perimeter on the farmost border of the map composed solely of flood lights. 4-When the perimeter is completed and you are producing lots of energy (near 999 per hit) build lots of metal mines with a turret perimeter on the hill. If you do not survive with this layout then I do not know what can help you.
I find ridiculus the inclusion of 3 different speed settings. Seriously, who plays this game at slow speed. Still great game.
*Madagascar has close down it's shipyards*
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
Also additional notes:
Arrow wave card is useless even when fully upgraded
meteor is essential for controlling enemy horde (preventing accumulation by provocation)
The Huge titan cards are good but are pretty useless against non-titan using foes as they take time to summon and you can easily win with a full level 5 set of cards.
Also the fire titan pawns the ice titan. Actually in general the Ice titan sucks as his attacks take way to long to charge and he does not counter well vs ranged.
You can almost finish a first campaign simply with level 5 goblins. They are fast, easy to accumulate and spawn well.
After getting up to the third badge I'm still undecided if I like this game or not. lol. Awful controls but addictive concept. Tips: when you have meteor: use meteor asap on enemy hero at the very beginning, that way he will charge you with very little backup. You can easily kill him off that way. Afterwards assault the castle. When you will have conquered about 2/3 of the map this strategy will not work anymore as the enemy will be able to summon backup in three waves (three horns). In that case after dealing with the enemy hero, retreat and muster your forces for a huge assault. Save your special abilities for when the horns sound. It's a good idea to call phoenix when you reach the castle to take care of the first wave.
Even considering the many flaws, this is quite an enjoyable game. I'm giving a generous score in the hope of a sequel. Points I would like to see made better: balancing (full spearton w/ user control can almost take out a giant), sound effects (the music is good IMO), grammar & bugs (the spear throw when controlled by the user does not give out additional damage.), more diverse objectives & better artwork.
Cool concept, awesome music, great design and style but no saving feature makes this game *really* frustrating. This was heading to 5 stars but stopped at 4 because of it. 4, even while considering how rare innovative games are.
It's not because a game developer has something new to offer that he can forgo the essentials.
Lots of content borrowing (music, sound), fonts are ugly, very busy and confusing interface, goals are not clear, in-game publicity for other game are all factors that make this game annoying and boring.
The good: nice design, interesting towers. The bad: limited level choice & unimaginative maps, no saving, annoying sound effects
The Ugly: no keyboard shortcuts, no control on waves, redundant after a while, lots of pointless grinding.
Great game, flawless game mechanics and original style. Simple & addictive concept, as with all tower defence games. The addition of a mute button, keyboard shortcuts, a saving feature, custom map building and hard scenarios pushes this excellent title beyond the 4 star level and into the 5 star level. A title I have found myself coming back too time and time again. *****
@ cinderous: about W3 being the source of tower def. games. you forgot about Starcraft... and Warcraft 2: battlenet edition. Considering W2: Bnet edition came after the first launch of SC (even if W2 was, at that time, older than SC), Starcraft invented the genre. The very first Tower Defense map being named... *drumroll* UMS_Tower_defence!
I hate how when playing at higher levels you dont get to choose your opponents based on level. When you are of a higher level, loosing to a lower level is very damaging for your skill rank if you lose and gives you almost nothing in terms of points if you win.
This might be fair for low level vs high level, but when you're mid-level, this sucks as most of the time you dont have the power cards and items of a higher up to compensate for this yet your as penalised by the game as a higher ranked player.
