The point at which you "Turn" into something is after buying the "?" upgrade. It's a bit of a homage to past games that can be found on Kongregate that use the same formula of play. The Turtle is from "Toss the Turtle" The Penguin is from "Learning to Fly" and the Third is a hedgehog from "Hedgehog Launch". All equally fun games, give them a try!
