The trouble with this game is that while events are based on the rhythm of the song, the important details of those events are random or based on your location, which means that regardless of the beat you've got to do the same dodging in any other game, just more unforgivingly. The cannons bounce randomly and aim at you, and the yellow bombs explode at a random height and in random directions. Only the crushers really need a good sense of rhythm (and that gets spoiled by the randomly bouncing cannons), the rest is boringly difficult mouse speed.
The final boss takes way too long to kill. I completely emptied my grenades and blaster just to beat his first form, and his second form is so predictable and repetitive and he takes so long with the SMG that I eventually messed up and got killed.
Moore, one of the main benefits of switching is that you can evade attacks. Allowing the other player to cancel their attack when their opponent switches makes switching kind of worthless. Switching is extremely important when your opponent uses an all-out move like Ray of Light or Chi Blast, where they will either kill you outright or (if you switch) they will be left weak, energy-drained and helpless.
