Whoa, I’m surprised either were on anyone’s radar at all. I hadn’t planned on touching DDSID since it was just a quickie jam game, but ES is (eventually) going to get remade as an RPG so I can hopefully do a much better job of telling its story. That and shooters just don’t seem to appeal to most players.

Yeah the command itself should work since it’s just javascript (rpgmaker mv/mz games not deployed to web run on a chromium-based engine) but yeah, I don’t use chrome personally so I didn’t know the instructions to get the debug console pointed at the right iframe. Glad it works on that one, too. ;)

Oops sorry, this is probably a bit late, but a few people posted it in the comments since then. In firefox (chrome is probably similar) press f12 to open the debug window, and make sure “console” is selected. Then, on the upper right area of the window, click the iframe button and select the game’s frame to be the active target. Then, in the console, you can paste the transfer function.

In a sense, I do have the text, but it’d be a bit of a pain to extract to a human-usable format and most of this game’s writing was pretty bad so it’s not worth the effort. As for the SWFs, they’re just asset libraries for RoM and aren’t intended to be run independently.

The main barrier for me is that they (being greedy SoBs) will probably want a hefty sum just to operate it, and another hefty sum to get all the user data so players could continue playing on their current accounts. I mean I could always ask, but I’m like 99% sure I won’t get a response, since getting any kind of response from them about anything seems futile.

Ah well, all good things come to an end I suppose.

Given most cards need revamping for balance slash to deal with the crazy power creep…
Why not copy the in-game mechanics with a few visual tweaks,
and change everything name wise in-game so old RoM cant complain / ask for the game to be removed…
With a decent operating plan that isn’t purely out to fleece as much as fast as possible… the game could build up a decent following even from new…

I’d guess speaking with the guy who runs the K&L version would be the best way of getting in contact with the Chinese developers for licensing/running a legit version of the game yourself…
But yeah, as you say i assume they charge out the wazoo… so unsure if it’d be worth investing that level of money.

It’s not just the names, but also the artwork, music, and really any assets that might be covered by copyright. But yeah, I wouldn’t run it in a fleece-the-players way. If anything, I was thinking about how to run it using a more modern F2P model, where F2P can legitimately compete with payers if they’re willing to grind a bit (but not excessively)

Overall though, I guess the game has run its course. There’s so much balance tweaking needed that it almost isn’t worth the work. Oh well :(

It took about a year, but that’s because it mainly involved lots of learning; both AS2 (the game was originally in AS2) and AS3, art basics, general game design, lots of mistakes, and all sorts of other things. I did it all at a rather leisurely pace, too. There will definitely be sequels, and it should take a fraction of that time to complete them this time around.

Touhou is even more extreme, in that males and genderless creatures simply do not exist at all in that world (so it seems, anyway). In Touhou, if you have to fight with or against it, it’s going to be a female character—typically with some sort of silly hat and/or random accessory.

Aesica, you are wrong, male DO exist in the touhou universe. But there only 4 of them know as of today. (Rinnosuke morichika, the brother of Byukaren, the master of Youmu, and the turtle of reimu… Yep, the last one is weird.)

Well to be fair, I’m only a casual Touhou player. I only know the names of the more popular characters, mainly those in the fighting games and those with exceptional theme tracks. (Yuyuko, Suwako, etc)

It’s a precautionary mechanic to make sure the mouse and player aren’t on opposite ends of the gamefield when the action starts. Move the mouse over the flashing bullseye. I suppose perhaps I should add some text saying “move the mouse here” to clarify that.

There’s a warning about it in the difficulty selector tooltip, but I can see how people might miss that. Besides, flexible difficulty lets players more dynamically adjust the settings based on their skill level, rather than forcing them to make an irreversible choice before they know what they’re getting into.
