The only issue I have with the game is that you're forced to pick either leveling units or upgrading them, as crystals are in short supply. As far as I can tell, leveling units is strictly better than upgrading. The class advancements seem absolutely necessary, so I didn't feel any need to use any of the upgrades. Perhaps rebalance the crystal cost of leveling?
Otherwise, a great little timewaster. 4/5
Not a bad game at all. It's actually challenging early on, though around the middle it's kind of a pushover. At the end, though, the difficulty picks up again. Good amount of upgrades and everything, and the game is actually really well balanced. Good job, whoever made this.
This game is a joke, just like EW1, and this developer's other games like this. Zero balance in the game. Quantity will get you much further than quality. There is no reason to do anything other than spam squires until your fingers bleed. Any unit other than squires are a huge waste of mana. Check out Paladins. Level 1: 1100 health, 150 attack. 580 mana. Level 3 squire: 230 health, 60 attack. THIRTY mana. Sure, paladins have 4x the health and 3x the attack of Squires, but they're NINETEEN times the cost. For one paladin, you could have 19 squires. I think I know what I'm going for.
Learn to balance the game, then I'll give it more than 2/5.
Might as well be called Fallout: the Merchant's Story. The battle system, all the menus, the setting, so much of this is taken from Fallout. Not saying that's a bad thing, though. Not much of a driving force behind the game, i.e. gets boring kind of quickly.
2/5.
Why? Complete lack of balance. It's good that you can't really proceed with the game unless you upgrade your units, but that alone breaks the game. Fully upgraded copters will win you the game, if you've got the mana regen necessary to pump them out. Dragons are 10 times the cost of copters, have LESS attack, and just under 3x the health. Not worth it at all. Several times I got bored. I never got a panzer, eagle, or any of the turrets because they're entirely worthless(same goes for dragons, but I got bored and made a few). Also, it seems that upgrading your mana capacity slows down your mana regeneration. It's based on percentage/time, but I felt that it slowed down the more I upgraded my capacity. This game needs a lot of work in the balance department in order to be better.
Way too slow paced to be entertaining, complete lack of balance in the game. One errant grenade can destroy your entire squad, single shots will (often) take out your most experienced soldiers that have eaten up over 6 or 7 tactical points in upgrades, defensive emplacements are mildly ineffective.
