I am stuck on the mine cart puzzle because no matter which way I turn the switches the mine cart just keeps going straight to the left on the top section.
When the cart stops in the middle of the tracks, you need to flip the blue lever to the left. Then restart the cart.

It would be awesome if after you build the boat, the game continued and you could visit other islands with different materials and more things to do.
