My name is Amy. I live in New York City alongside my older brother, Jack, more or less as his “guardian angel.” We need each other as much as bread needs butter or bees need honey. I keep his will alive, his passion to keep going, the flame within his soul alight, and he provides me a life that I couldn’t ask for in my wildest dreams. I owe him more than I could ever hope to give but he tells me not to worry, that all he needs to keep going is to see me happy. I feel more guilty than a passerby witnessing a terrifying beating of a poor, defenceless puppy. Could I ask for a better life? No. At least not for myself. If I could give Jack one, I wouldn’t hesitate. He more than deserves one. Could I live without my brother? Highly unlikely. But that wouldn’t stop me from accepting his new life if he ever had the chance to pursue one.
