That 'hard on the eyes' pattern in the background is actually the key to playing, at least as far as I've gotten. Just pay attention to which parts of it are filled.
If you play like the AI, on average, you'll score like the AI. The normal human strategy is worse than any of the AI strategies, but once you understand the rules and strategies, you can easily play better than the AI.
Being able to absorb (or use slow-time for free) while invincible seems pretty necessary to prevent you from being hit over-and-over coming out of invincibility.
You can slide the volume bar all the way down to minimum on the lower left side of the main menu. It's not quite a mute, but play some music over it and you're good.
You can play through the game without getting crouch. The one turret that is supposed to require crouch can be bypasses by abusing respawn invincibility with good timing. Then you can get slide, which makes crouch unnecessary. I didn't even know crouch was a thing until I happened to run into it on my way to escape.
