Not a bad start! A countdown of some kind would really improve this, so that you know how long you have to hunt down the demon. Also a GUI skin for the intro would do a lot to help this.
Definently better than my first game!
First things first - GREAT user interface. However, the game gets downright frustrating - not fun - in the later levels. Consider increasing the amount of gold earned, for starters. The late levels seem to require upgrades, and doing a straight playthrough, one just can't get enough gold to really upgrade, that is without farming (which is not considered fun.) Also, other than the achievement, I see no reason to talk to people in "towns" - nothing they say has any worth whatsoever. Finally, while I get that the map system is similar to FFTactics, make it so if you click on a distant point, you walk to it - having to be Sir Clickalot on the map is annoying. 3/5.
Protip on getting the second Hard achievement (beat the game) - Just like in EBF2, you want to make sure you've as much chance cast or counterattack capabilities as possible. In particular I recommend maxing out White Mage Dress, Crystal Staff, Army Jacket, Soldier Helmet, Viking Fur, and Knight Helmet as quickly as possible. White Mage Dress is especially nice, as the summoned Slime casts Regen on your party, which comes in handy really quickly. Fortune to you all.
Congratulations. EBF is now a real RPG. I particularly like the graphic style, and leveling up equipment and skills both are a nice touch. I think the quest system could use a bit of work, but it's not by any means bad enough to detract from the game. Very well-done, and can't wait for EBF4!
This is a truly great game, not because of the good music, the compelling lore, or the graphics (assuredly *not* the graphics, in fact.) This is a truly great game, because I don't think any other game has really tried doing something like this, and this one succeeds with replay value, even after you've unlocked everything. I would like to see a sequel of this.
This is a very good game! To me, it falls short of 5-stars for a couple of reasons. First, the maps are quite a bit on the small side (even though I like most of the idea of the room-by-room world map composition - it's kind of Zelda, kind of not.) Another gripe I have is the in-game achievements - the basic ones take a very long time to get, which dosen't really convince me to come back and keep playing later. Besides that, this is a very solid action RPG, if an improved sequel is ever made, I'd love to play it!
I like the game, but I don't feel it's up to a 4- or 5-star rating. While the user interface is stellar - except for the incomplete reporting of stats - animations are slow enough to make me cringe, the map system I guess is supposed to be reminiscent of a D&D match, but in the end, this game just isn't up to the standard that the top Kongregate games are. This holds its own nicely, but more fluid animations, and perhaps of all things a more simplified interface would help improve this game's experience.
This game, while a joke, is also *REALLY* good. I would like a sequel to this game, preferably with the 16bit graphic generation and 64-bit graphic generation represented. This is truly an inspiration, especially to developer nerds like myself!
I see the Super Metroid inspiration...though there are some fresher, more modern influences I like. This is a game I will enjoy playing for a while to come. A firing reticule and possibly a mouse sensitivity setting would be really nice things to add to this already quite good game.
@BoredMFer: The reason the popup happens is solely because I made this with Unity 2.6, and you can't disable the R-Click menu, for any reason. Fortunately, 3.0 can generate non-R-click menu webplayers, which is why I've taken so long in replying - I'm working on updating the game to 3.0.
@Aramel93: I'm working on a balancing patch as well. While I can lose with Knights, it seems Zombies require a *heroic* effort. In my pre-testing phase, they were winning far too easily. It seems I was too generous with the nerf-stick.
This game is not bad, as many others have said. What makes it 3/5 "Good" and not 5/5 "Awesome" are as follows:
-Controls. The WASD movement was standard enough, but I had no clue how to use anything beyond my assault rifle, and didn't know how to chat. Consider revising your controls.
-Graphics. While you've got some really cool things, some of the game's graphics seem kind of thrown together. Aim to make your graphics more consistent.
-Level Design. There's not a whole lot directing the player's efforts. Where's the additional obstacles, line-of-sight blocks, and ammunition pickups?
-Performance. The network setup connects me to the game whether I want to be or not, which I find to be a more serious flaw. Consider a healthy bug-hunting to make sure all undesirable aspects of the game are smoothed.
Despite those gripes, though, this has great potential. I'll be waiting to hear about the next patch.
thanks man! yeah, I made the timer too small; it's on the top left.
