I agree that lateral movement is way too slow, and some of the birds way too large for this game to really be fun. At a certain point it is more about luck then skill, if there won't birds spawning in your path because you simply can't NOT hit them.
I'll throw in my 2 cents and say the interface is a huge issue for me as well. Having to scroll through three screens worth of information on my monitor is rough enough, but the whole thing is just super cluttered with information. Probably won't play much as a result.
