Nice game! Lots of room for development in the sequel. A tournament on one of the ports (with preset enemies increasing in difficulty) might be fun, and it would be interesting to diversify the ways in which you can lose/gain time. Maybe one item could allow you to live on after death and fight your way through the underworld to sail the seas again. What about having a third, more expensive weapon choice to allow for long-range pirates on the crew who can attack monsters and ships without boarding? More upgrades would be fun too - armor, cannons, firecannons, chainshots etc. As other players have commented, it would be nice to have an option to keep sailing after successfully winning the game. Maybe the peril of the sea would increase? Whirlpools that pull you under the waves unless you have a certain number of crew to pull oars and avert the danger... increasingly challenging monsters... plagues that wipe out your crew... Anyway, enjoyed playing and looking forward to the next game.
