I could imagine that if a manager of a bed and breakfast would be asked what his job entailed, he would answer: Manage staff, answer phones and put out small fires.
I played this on Armor Games until I had over 1000 employees. The game broke down a few times but the save feature works over there so at least I could continue from last autosave.
Try this... focus on buying the balloon defence... three of four is fine. Then just collect ballons and let the bombs fall on them. When the balloons have been hit two or three times go to the upgrade menu. Then when you return to the game the balloon counter is reset.
