Doing a simple scientific model of being able have 21 militiamen by year 35. Hiring peasants when I can't hire a militiaman. Increasing volume for both only when necessary. Not using peasants for fighting. Increasing food only for growth. Went with "Eskimo" scenario. Using Huts when possible for food growth as they give monetary gain yearly as well. There is NO WAY you can finish this game on normal on possibly any other setting other than American...Horrible balance, horrible decision making choices, i.e. peasants who can fight and die or highly costly ineffectual ONLY gaining in fighting (to a simplistic level of cost, versus defense/offense ability). This is Faux Noobs version of gaming. I like the premise. Enjoyed trying to solve the puzzle. The puzzle cannot be solved, or beat.
Yes, horribly unbalanced as I just hit on year 35: 2 archers, 4 militiamen, 21 swordsmen, and 7 knights to fight...I can't match that monetarily at 35 years...21 swordsmen (barracks cost plus the buying the 21 swordsmen...I don't see it possible, except as going American...even so, at BASE value for a swordsman - 600 gold, that is 12600 gold. Without any increase in price for the swordsmen. Here's a question...has anyone actually hit the 50th year without going, "special"?
The idea is good. I like the old school script and graphics, but the randomness is ruling. There is very little progression. If you use your militia to help defend, and you lose them, then, game over...cause they are also your main source of income and without the income, you are so crippled that you cannot recover. It is simply a downhill roll.
Would like to say that the melee set up isn't bad, if you don't care for casting classes (which I usually don't play). Dodge or block, then attack, been going through most of the game that way, I will cast some spells on casting mobs, other then that, no trouble. The one healing spell with the ability to purchase potion drop percentage makes it difficult to die. I do believe the summoned spell is in need of either better AI or better defense as they really don't do any damage against other melee creatures.
I believe what makes this game enjoyable to play is that the beginning story line fits for most who are looking to make a difference. Add to that, the simple UI and the rest of the problems tend to fall away. "You are a hero who defeated this evil before - I give you LIFE so you can do it again! Go, do as you have already done, to save the people!" Very good beginning. I am looking forward to Spectre Knight - The Trinity (resurrected again...3 lives. Just a thought) Working on the game play and a few glitches that are mentioned by Dorcas, er651fs, and grivas. This game could be a #1 hit on Kong. :)
I am trying to understand the magic system in the game. The lightening strike spell costs 40 mana and only does 6 points of damage at lvl 1? Same with the summon spells, the mana cost is very high with little benefit. And the buffing spells last only a single round? Seems like a waste to play a caster...
A very pretty game...and that is about it. You should build it into an arcade console so that you can set it up next to theatres and let kids throw quarters into it if you want to make money off a 5 minute game.
Another thing about this game is, it is balanced. 1. You don't have to be a samurai to play it and enjoy it. 2. You don't have to keep moving forward to succeed or enjoy it. 3. You get a chance to explore the dynamics of the gathering/building/strategy system without the destruction of other games.
I have been on Kongregate for a few years now and I rarely comment on games for reasons of making it better. I guess the reason I'm commenting on this one is because I love it so much, I'd like to see one change to make it exemplary from my personal view...that is a-
I have to say that of all the Last Stand series, this is the worst. Having the choice of where you search for anything you need is so random. It says "guns" yet you don't necessarily get guns, finding survivors is a crap shoot, and the same with supplies, just because you check out a grocery store does not mean that there will be any supplies inside. If you are gonna mark them for what they may give, give something for the trouble of searching them.
I'm very upset that such a bad game, in my opinion, has 4 achievements. I mean, seriously, what is the point of the game, walk around and pick up money? Horrible game.
I would have liked this game much better if the auto on/off worked. When you are trying to build up and everyone just moves towards enemy units, it's kinda pointless to have the auto on/off, it's really on or off till I see an enemy soldier :/
I have been playing on Kong for 3 or more yrs now and was very happy that they didn't allow the advertisements to interfere with my game playing...now this "We The Kings" advertisement without a mute button has really upset me. Please, fix the no mute button problem.
Thank you for your feedback! Spells do get better with levels Beobaun. We'll have to tweak them a bit so they are better suited for low level play.
