show moreI would like to note that some flutes can be, and are still, made out of wood. Early flutes were wooden (or bone). Also, an instrument’s composition has nothing to do with its classification. An instrument is a ‘woodwind’ instrument if it produces sound by using air to vibrate an object, which is often a reed. Flutes are peculiar in that the object vibrating is the air itself as it splits across the edge of the embouchure hole. Also, the typical flute you may see often is a specific type of Western flute, which is typically made of aluminum-alloy, and plated with silver. I’m sorry for being picky, but as a former flute player, I hate to see people misunderstand the instrument.
