Finally cleared the game with every character. The lack of an ability to upgrade a standard weapon for the archer makes it unreasonably difficult to clear with that class. (The only way I finished was getting 3 upgrade scrolls from a well and running a +3 spear from level 1... and some luck)
the random miss mechanic is really completely unnecessary in my opinion. The game is difficult enough when you strategically place units between yourself and archers, only to have you miss the unit with a dart, and their dart miss the enemy mob pass through and kill you, or missing an opponent 3 times in a row and getting killed because of it.
I don't know if suggestion are appreciated or not, but... you may want to give the Rogue a skill that adds experience for every mob left alive on a floor the first time it descends a staircase. That could possibly promote a stealth strategy when trying to get through the dungeon. Currently the only way to accumulate xp to improve your stealth skill is to get in fights to kill mobs for xp, which is a little bit counter-intuitive.
Secondly, it is extremely difficult to run the ranger as a true ranged attack specialist unless you get the helmet boosting damage, by finding the altar that gifts leveled ranged loot, or getting extremely lucky finding javelins. You just can't deal relevant damage to high level mobs at 8 damage per strike with standard darts and you can't reasonably upgrade them like you can the weapons of other classes. You may want to give the option to buy that helmet at the first merchant or make the first altar you encounter the ranged altar for ranger.
I find the game fun and challenging in general. What I don't find fun is the teleport and pitfall traps. It's one thing to intentionally get yourself into trouble and have to work your way out. It's another thing when you are randomly teleported into a swarm of spiders and have no way to defend yourself.
It would be very helpful if you could see what hero requirements there are for each quest on the quest selection screen. It would make it far less time consuming to allocate the heroes that way, as opposed to clicking into them and clicking out and trying to remember if you needed another lvl 10 shaman elsewhere, etc
In regards to your response from my comment: My heroes are above level 5. I notice that there is an inventory item called "scroll piece" that seem to align to the various promotions. First, the scroll pieces seem to be disappearing from my inventory. I had multiple of several at one point, and I only have single copies now. Second, It is not made clear anywhere how promotions function. Do I need multiple scroll pieces to make a scroll to promote? If so, where is that explained?
Additionally, what are the requirements to upgrade equipment? It seems like the only thing I can upgrade are bronze blades. Is there an explanation on how equipment upgrades are intended to function written somewhere that I am missing? Are you not able to upgrade anything but bronze blades?
There is tutorial when you start the game that teaches how to upgrade items and explains Scroll pieces and the fact that you can upgrade 3 scroll pieces into one scroll. The text on the right on the class promotion window says that you have to find Scrolls to promote characters. To upgrade an item you need 2 same items and enough money to upgrade.
Is there a tutorial, or written instructions on how to do things? I cannot figure out how to upgrade items or do a class promotion. I seem to have the scrolls and gold listed but it will not allow me to do anything.
Are you playing the latest version? In the previous build there were no "Level 5 required" notice on the class promotion screen, now it's there. Probably your hero has lower level?
