Getting the hard badge is actually really easy. Just do everything the top comments tell you. If you don't get $500 in the first day, you should refresh. Once you do though, you've pretty much got it, no matter what you do.
Interestingly, the game is easy if you remain in a "relationship". Once you're out, it's more difficult to survive, and sometimes, even difficult to get back into a "relationship".
