Some humans helped him, but others tried to kill him, showing how different and complicated humans are. Ironically, by trying to protect humans, he was killed by humans. The music contributed to the sad tone. We see the alien's selflessness in that he can choose to live forever, but he chose to save others instead. Moral-wise, aliens are not that different from humans, and repeating stormyshot, war does not discriminate.
