Does the game continue running if I close it? I know that the factory continues to generate resources, but will my current game advance if I close my browser mid-wave?

I keep getting disconnected from the server, sometimes to the point of not even being able to play the game at all. Is there a rhyme or reason for this, and is there a way I can optimize my browser/network settings to avoid this?

Apocalypse, wave 107 on the Road map. The game all of a sudden dies. I was doing so well, too...
