Great game, acceptably challenging, no real grinding if you're halfway decent with strategy. Storyline could use some fleshing out. Some other short comings/suggestions. 1.) There's no ending. After completing the last mission it just brings you back to the map. No wrap-up, no credits, no unlocked hard/survival mode. A survival mode would be awesome if there were a mechanism to replenish ammo, i.e. killed enemies drop ammo that needs to be collected, etc. 2.) Money is a non-issue after the halfway point. Only an idiot would buy heavy armor that turns your fire team into a slogging bullet magnet. Live and die by AP, not armor. 3.) The move limits for the third star are too lax. You literally have to run around doing nothing for dozens of turns to even approach some of those limits and that's including the "survive for x number of rounds". All in all, I liked it a lot. But no replay value as of yet. Thanks for the great game. Keep it up.
What exactly does the "Upgraded Barracks" do? I must have missed the crows' explanation. As far as I can tell the units aren't improved... it doesn't unlock any new units... stuff isn't cheaper... That being said, it's an excellent game. Fun storyline, smooth gameplay (though, having to de-garrison a territory to get the additional stars is bothersome), diverse well balanced units and countless strategies. I'd like to see a map function and hot keys.
Maybe this is an exploit... But once you build yourself a tower (i.e. 3 blocks up) you can sell everything below the top block and still build on it. So you will have floating walls essentially. I usually build 3 or 4 platforms (they are the cheapest block) then an armor block before placing a gun, then sell the platforms to get most of the money back. Then you don't even have to build the next tower to build up, you can attach armor blocks adjacent to your first floater making a floating wall of armor and gun emplacements. You have to be fairly fast with the build and demolish button in the first wave though if you want to save everything. Maybe this strategy/exploit can only be used effectively in the early levels. I'm still working my way through the game.
I presume this game is a no win scenario in accordance to history? So the fact that Tea is strictly a money sink is a good way of making sure no one defies history I guess, but it makes for a frustrating game. Don't get me wrong, I love the game. Just don't like not being able to win.
A few suggestions that might make it better: 1.) Make it so not all ports are open to you from the get go. You either unlock them or buy them to open them up for trade. 2.) Give us a bonus to delivering Tea on time, etc. 3.) Make the game based on time and not happiness of "The Empire", so it follows history without making it feel like we failed and can't possibly win. Or maybe I just haven't figured out how to beat it yet. But still great game. 4/5.
Too easy.
Suggestions: This game just needs balancing. Upgrade caps, nerf the MG tower, skills seem broken as it makes the game even easier than it already is. Maybe 1 or 2% instead of 5, etc. The support towers should have more expensive upgrade costs but their abilities should be augmented as well not just the range of the effect. To make the game harder, introduce new types of creep, flying (plane), spawn (apc unit that splits into soldiers when killed), armored (tank). And of course make corresponding weapons that are good against each, but poor against the other types. Encouraging mixing and matching towers for optimal strategy.
All in all, this game has potential. It is a fun little TD game, rather generic, and as of now, still really easy, but fun. Hope this is helpful. Cheers.
