An unexpected change in the Effing Games series. From keeping objects in the air in order to cause mass destruction to protecting something with your guns. This is not a bad change in gameplay but there is plenty of room for improvement.
Firstly, a more complex upgrade system and a larger variety of robots, complete with descriptions, would let players get a better idea of what is going on. For example, the starting flying squid robot could be given a description of "Very weak but fast and comes in large numbers".
Secondly, the variety is lacking with only 5? different robots. Although they change in size, speed and damage, the overall challenge and intrigue is gone after a while. Perhaps a ranged robot that attacks the city from afar or a suicide bomber type robot. Boss battles will also make this game more awesome.
Overall, I like this game. Although it has too little variety, it has potential to be a better game and I hope that this game will have a sequel.
Good graphics and nice gameplay and I am glad to say that this new game concept was carried out well, unlike most newly formed innovative concepts. Learning curve is not very steep and the controls are simple to use.
However, levels seem to increase in difficulty quite fast and this requires replaying of levels, making the game repetitive after a while. Despite this, the achievements and upgrades not only makes retrying levels satisfying, but also interesting when seeing the results of a new and having a goal to aim for.
Overall, this is the best game I have played in a very long time. The new gameplay and ideas that have been pulled off quite nicely and I hope that Rete will make a sequel of Villainous. :)
