The game has been really fun so far, but heck if I don't skip every one of those dubbed 'cutscenes' because the Engrish here is just... off the charts.
I completely get all of the 'worst controls ever' comments... yet... they grew on me. Quickly. Within the first five levels I was floundering around, dashing into spikes on a fairly regular basis, but by the time I had completed the game and was going for challenge times, the controls felt a lot easier to handle. Still not perfect, but better than they could have been.
I guess there's the whole 'playing better' option, but I much prefer spamming Escape and hoping I get to the top. That's how I set my highest record thus far...
I can't believe that I'm going to say the ball doesn't act realistically in a game in which I am putting into a submarine and then out of its missile... but the ball just doesn't behave remotely realistically.
What exactly /is/ the good ending? Because I got all the song crystals, used them, and pretty much saved the world... and I didn't get the good ending. Am I just supposed to let everyone die?
Note to self: When making a giant monster to destroy the world, make sure it's actually fast enough to kill something other than slow moving humans and stationary buildings.
The only thing I don't get is the storyline's progression. A little girl who just wants a mom inspires a pervert who wants to get laid, whose crude drawing makes an Egyptian man think someone's going to set the world on fire, which an African kid thinks is a dead bird, which somehow manages to inspire a musician to write a song... And then lastly winds up with Santa (its originally intended recipient) who is feeling neglected but cheers him up. Ok, but what about Sandy, the little girl? She's still missing a mom thanks to the people who either wrote over her letter or threw it away.
I really wish the platinum medal was possible in the last few levels. I swear, even with the Omni gun and using every smart bomb I can get my hands on, it's simply impossible to kill so many enemies at once.
I really can't say I enjoyed this game as much as I could. I know it's logical to make him unable to go through the bottom of planes but when I get a nice high jump going and am suddenly blasted to Earth by accidentally hitting the bottom of a blimp, I am not pleased at all. Also, basically throwing us blind towards the ground is more than a bit annoying.
My only complaint is that the Climbing training mingame is... just bad. I mean, it has no redeeming quality whatsoever. You're caught far too often in those curves that mean that if you jump you die but if you don't jump you die.
As I play I realize I 'should' be playing it as a Minesweeper-esque game, but I honestly just dig every square in every map before moving on to the next one...
Hmm, CS5 must be different from CS3 since I can make the ship, get it to move, and get the arrow keys working, but it never stops going right. I have to hold the left key in order to stop it, but if I let go of that it will start going right again. And I copied the code exactly from the tutorial, down to the last bracket.
I should also note that you can use the temporary invincibility of death to skip past collecting the first Compression Unit. If you get shot by the laser you can run through it without getting hurt again. It takes some timing, but it's useful... if you feel like skipping the Compression Unit for whatever reason.
