Just swarm Spitters -- a tad expensive to research, but cheaper than the blade maggots. And hey hit flying things, too! At least, as far as I've gotten, this works well. Maybe swarm something else on later levels.

Good game. One problem: so easy! More zombies would make it so much more fun, especially a couple of ranged ones and fast ones. Those would be more likely to hit you and they would remove the perfection that is the glass cannon in this game. Just upgrade all the gun abilities but none of the health abilities and you are good. Seriously - never been touched and never will, sadly.
For all those who need help:
Archidons are weak against a ull-on assault. Make an extra miner, 2-3 swords, and click attack. Just keep hiring sword guys, and you win.
+2 mining rate
Sunset defense - buy 1 archer, then mass produce sword guys. this'll take care of any assault, as the archer hits the spear-guys and the sword-guys kill them almost instantly because of the fact that there are 4-5 attacking at once.
+1 mining speed, +1 archer damage
Swordwrath - buy an extra miner, than get 4 sword guys. 2 archers, then spam sword guys until your total soldier count equals about 15-17. Then do a suicide charge - you'll lose most of your men when they come out of the castle. You'll be fine as long as you keep making sword guys.

Because Excalibur-style swords damage rocks faster than a large club or a pick. Seriously, though, why can't we use miners against the enemy's statue? That'd kill fast.
The monsters need a health count. I would find it easier if, when you hover your mouse over a monster, it gives not only a health level for when you've defeated it, like it does now, but also a health level for the monster and a damage level. Also, it would be nice if, on the spells and weapons, when you are in a level, it shows you how much damage it will deal. Overall a good game, just a great lack of information hinders perfection.
When you set the graphics to low so you can have less lag and it looks like your miners are beating the heck out of a rock with Christmas lights with black sticks.
There is so no reason to mass murder people with giant bugs that shoot lighting and make baby chickens with is butt just because some idiot broke your favorite toy and totally tortured you all your life. You should just kill him.
It's so funny to have beaten multiple boss levels, made lots of money, and got the grinders (at least two) and then you go to a swarmer level and they kill themselves on your huge weapons. You dont even have to move.
This game is fun, I played the Christmas version a long time ago, but I would like a Stats button to check your Stats (along with basic stats for enemies when you hover over the level button), and the saw weapons shouldn't deal damage when they are off. Because they are literally swords in that aspect. Axes and Hammers should also only deal damage when they swing or you turn to move the weapon into the enemy, and swords are fine, just a little more complication on the melee would be nice. Overall, 12/10, (I could only give five stars), 'cos its very fun(And time consuming...)
Here's a tip: upgrade gold A LOT and get as high on it as possible, then you fill up health, ammo, and First Aid Bag, and get at least level three first weapon 'cos it can one-shot Eggplants. That's about it(I'm still working on that stuff... new strategy)
