When the game is open, 1 monster will drop a seed spore in a 30 second period. It is possible to see them close together (I.E. one at 29 seconds into a period and then 1 at 3 seconds into the next period, so the following one won't drop until at least another 28 seconds has passed)
You guys have knocked it out of the park. I have not been hooked on a game here on Kong since I first found Gem Craft and Bloons TD.

Hi Dcromm, You can see your current area with the mini-map in the top right corner. The gold arrow will be pointing at your current area. If you mean your current objective, you can see that by hovering the icon beside the gold cup in the top left center.
for those complaining about the upgrade costs...
When you start completing a few quests that reward 1500-2000 gold, and a ship full of loot to sell, upgrades suddenly dont seem so costly and can be maxed out quickly.
