Really fun story and great presentation in a flash game. Hilarious. The "game" part is pretty limited, though...decisions quickly become meaningless b/c you win every battle with ease every time. Still, 4/5 for design and story.
Really bad game design. This is straight up "Progress Quest", but requires that more buttons be pushed, and some un-intuitive min-maxing. Bosses also seem unbalanced.
Really excellent, innovative game design. This has kept me from playing Mass effect this weekend...b/c the gameplay is just a little better :) There should be a note on the Juggernaut that playing him is "hard mode". Beat the game with him, but he is far less forgiving of shifts in strategy than the others. I also like the old school difficulty curve. Almost games used to be like this...maybe I'm an old fogie, but these new games are too easy, and the youth aren't building their character. We used to have to game uphill both ways in the snow... 5/5
Love the game, but the reward system is very arbitrary. Since the chance to win cards drops off quickly, it is easy to get to very high win numbers w/very few cards won...and then winning more becomes very unlikely. I'd recommend having guaranteed wins at regular intervals, like every 5 wins. Also, newbs should get to pick the first 3 or 4 cards they win so they can get items that fit their characters and have a beginning team that they like.
Really excellent game design here. One of the most interesting strategically on Kongregate...if you're frustrated and getting started, learn the abilities and start each turn by asking yourself "what would I do if I were my opponent". Luck is important, but like poker, mtg, and many other games with a large "luck factor" skill actually outweighs the effects of luck over time, most of the time.
