You don't have to start from the beginning if you won the game before the badges were added, you just play the saved data and go straight to the proffesor, then you get the badge :)

Shadsy: You can connect every room, but only, if every hall is connected to some other one. If one room has two halls, you can't connect it to the hall that has only one hall. You understand?

I think it's sad that he's spending all his life waiting for some magical force making his way to the elixir. Why should he even bother drinking it if he doesn't enjoy his life?
