There’s a legend abouts these parts. It’s about a creature which was born amidst the nightmares of one who’s mind was full of much power. Nay, not a writer mind you…a telepath. Many years ago, when I was just a lad, I heard this story; “During one of the hardest winters came a visitor to our village. We can’t remember much about this visitor, only that it’s eyes glowed the most awful blue beneath it’s cloak. It came with warnings that our village would be taken by an indescribable evil. We didn’t believe the figure and bade it be on it’s way. However, a storm came that night, closing off the only pass out of our small village. The visitor, whilst leaving, was trapped beneath a snowfall, and quickly sickened throughout the night. Many hours would pass, and none would approach the stranger to aid it. It was shortly before dawn when the screams of the stranger would come to haunt all with-in earshot. They were the screams of the tormented, the damned, and would haunt many men well into the years which they would rock quietly on the front porch of whatever home they resided.” That isn’t all to the story. You see, I must hurry. Even now, as I tell you about him, it…he, it, comes! Damn it! I don’t have time for this!! Listen before it’s too late! That night, as the stranger died in our village, something so utterly unlike our world was given life. My father, the only one to think of this, was the only one to take his family to the safety of the snow shelter. He bundled us into the many warm furs from his many previous hunts, and sheltered us as best he could from the horrible screams that would come from without. Oh god! I can still remember them! I can still see his face!! Beware, you. Beware, for there is an evil more potent than that of a vampire. There is an evil more pure than the lycanthropes from the west. This creature, this demoneque monster born from the nightmares of the telepath, it, HE, is known as Dr. Mosq! The man speaking to you quickly looks over his shoulder Not that you’ll have long to live once you see him, but beware. Even when it, HE, is not on the prowl, it may already have your scent on his lips! Oh god! *There is a buzzing noise from somewhere nearby, and the man suddenly squeals. You recoil in horror as his chest suddenly explodes, covering you in blood and gore. Every fiber in your body screams for you to turn and run, but you cannot. You cannot, because as you watch, a long black proboscis snakes through the gaping hole in the man’s chest. It feels out, then upward, slowly. You gasp as rivers of blood continue to pump from the hole in the man’s torso, splashing you on the face, slowly running down the trunk-like proboscis. Suddenly, it darts up and into the roof of the man’s mouth, yanking him into the sky away from you! The last image you have before you faint away is one which will haunt you for all of your years. You see the light leaving the man’s eyes as the proboscis pierces up into his nose, entering his brain. As he is lifted into the air, the creature behind him, the one with the proboscis, stands a full two feet higher than the man it just claimed. It’s skin is black, rippling, seemingly armoured as if with a carapace. It’s eyes are huge, taking up nearly all of the upper portion of it’s head, (the lower being the proboscis) and are red and segmented…that which you might suspect are like a fly’s. It seems to be wearing a white lab coat, but you aren’t too sure. Furthermore, as it lifts the man away, and as you fall into a shocked faint, you think you see what are nicely pressed slacks and goat-like hooves on the lower portion of the creature. You feel the air rushing past your skin as you fall towards the ground. The impact is inconsequential, as you don’t feel it. The last thing you remember is seeing the man’s blood rain down from the sky, splashing the cobblestones with a deepening, sinister crimson.
