Well no duh cat, but the power increase is negligable unless you are on battery or using a toaster... and besides, I can fiddle with this game over 3 hours or so, tabbing in and out.

Paying does give you a research benefit, but it's not that big. I know a guy who is 2 levels higher then me. Worse research, but his fleets are much stronger. Its a trade off.
