nice game :) i've complete the game with these:
Viper 1/2 (Minigun and Durability max, T. Compressor 2), Boss 1/5 (Railgun 4,UAV 1,Durability 4), Booster 2/5 (Laser and Durability 4, Spares Disp. 2). order: VIPER - BOSS - BOOSTER hope it help :P
i don't understand why is unbadged? this game is smart, graphically well done and complex.. oh! it was played 431k times and have general rate 3,9. please badge it and keep it :))
this is a 5/5 stars but i rate 3 for reason.
- band allowed is 3 on 5 the others 2 look their comrades die and smile but it's ok.
- positions are bad can not be positioned in other way? erica is useless on side, josh and ray aren't great in same position cause their shoot type.
- this is important, game save only in browser then closing or deleting cache all save is lost and memory and cpu usage become too heavy.
my critics are only for dev, i suggest some idea not bad rating the game, without the problems i've see was a 5/5 rate from me.
i hate peoples that comment "great nice game" and say nothing for suggest improvements to remove something that can be better
can't setup army where i want, default positions are bad and many empty areas can be used but devs have denied.
game is good as style and kind of think but have many limits cause towers position, 1 only building for city? this si very bad wasting 1 city for a not worthy bonus, my army is very stupid and can't be set for priority or at least player can be able to select enemy for target.
i've finish the game only thanks to kongregate badges, without them i was stop and clear the game save at 4 stage.
the game is all in-a-stage then all will be repeated and mechanic not change, but is in a good way of think.

game is ok, graphic and commands respond.
upgrades are done in right way for no have all to max so have to choose, only thing i think (only personal opinion) was better doing a mix (+2 weapon +1 speed example).
hint for 30k score: gain starting gold 2500 at least, buy coffer lvl 4 and lvl 3 (loot +7) after cannon lvl 4 (weapon +4), sell coffer lvl 3 (+3) and buy pirate flag lvl 4 or 3, after buy the other flag, you need only fire rate. having all these 5 you can sell coffer and buy speed doing this everytime, loot give you more lifes if you're good dodger speed from flags is enough.
