Little misunderstanding. ;)
I will retire this account because I feel like I have moved on in life and should make some changes in various aspects of my life. I especially focus on things that in my opinion do not represent who I am anymore. An account I have made in 2008 and that has hit all the milestones I wanted to hit, with a username that has lost its meaning years ago seems like a perfect example for something that does not represent who I am anymore.
I will continue to post and play here, but it will be under a different name.

But thank you for caring and taking the time to write.

Of course I accept your apology, but there is nothing you really have to apologise for. You are simply not used to my style of posting.
The forums, especially SD can be a pretty heated place sometimes. And I have to admit that my style of posting on topics that I have a similar stance on as that one can put new people off at times. So I can’t really blame you for what happened in that thread. I mean, I wrote in that style because I figured that this was important to you and that you might respond in such a way because of that. I kind of wanted to see how you would react to it.
I guess one could say that this was sort of bad sportsmanship, but to me it’s a way of finding out where people stand; if they argue emotionally or prefer a more mediated approach and try to base their arguments on a solid foundation. And if the former is the case I can become pretty uncomfortable. I just don’t like these sorts of arguments, because they are not constructive. And so I home in on them.

Please note that this was not meant to attack you, even if it seemed that way. It was more meant to point out the flaws I saw in your approach. So if something like this happens again, please, don’t get worked up over it. I’m not trying to attack you, I’m attacking your arguments. And I usually have a reason for that. Instead of fuming, dissect what I am saying and try to find out what my problem might be. Maybe there really are flaws in your argument.
If there are, work on them and you will end up with a much stronger position.
If there really aren’t, I was wrong. And you should let me know that, so that I can find out what is wrong with my criticism and in turn improve my position.

So, yeah. That became a lot longer than I had planned initially. But I hope that it will help you to have an easier time with me and the other guys and girls in the future. Most of us aren’t really malicious in any way. We try to make constructive posts, but sometimes they have a bit of… Character to them. If you can look through that, you will see the message the user is trying to get across. It might even help you to become better at understanding people’s messages in real life. I know that it has for me, although I’m far from perfect. :D

OH, I forgot to add: I found the whole exchange to be hilarious. It looks as if the OT Team is getting bored over there. But, why is it that the most pathetic of the trolls are the ones to come to SD? LOL

Oh, they just like to test their personas on different target audiences and see how it goes. In SD the chances are higher to be taken seriously, so it’s logical for them to move over if they can think of a gimmick that might get a reaction. And it kind of worked. Here he looked like an immature poster for some time. In OT it was absolutely clear that he was using an alternative account for the hell of it.
I have a feeling I know who was behind this one, actually. This was just a way for him to have some fun. I don’t think he expected this account to last much longer than a few days at maximum.

For the linguistics part, H.P. Grice’s theory is probably the most important one, although cognition was never really his main point of focus. He was one of the most important linguists when it came to defining implicatures. For him, what someone says and what someone means cannot be clearly divided. According to him one ‘cannot say something unintentionally.’ Of course, there are different opinions on that and his theory was never intended to be an exhaustive one, but he was quite clear on that. And his theory is still one of the best ones when analysing conversation on a theoretical level.
You could probably also add in John L. Austin speech act theory and especially John R. Searle’s notion of indirect speech acts and the illocution. Whenever we say something we actually want to achieve something and thus, whenever we do say something we must have some motivation to do that. Requesting, asking, boasting, or simply making conversation to strengthen social bonds.
On the psychological side it is basically behaviouristic view, so an important name here would be B. F. Skinner. Everything we do is either hardwired into us or a reaction to our environment. Including interferences makes sense to account for the errors that simply happen in conversation and theories on memory have done a decent job at defining such interferences and their possible effects. So, we are not only affected by our environment (i.e. ‘outside’) but also by our own cognition, memory, sensations etc (‘inside’). Priming would be a clear example of that.

I don’t like the extreme forms of behaviourism, because they tend to look at living things as if they were machines. Provide input, get output. If the input is the same you will get the same output all the time. I don’t feel comfortable with that. It just simplifies things way too much. But I also don’t like theories that treat the human mind like a black box. Essentially, everything does depend on the structures in our brain. The problem is that this structure and the processes in it are still not really understood).
So, on a basic level I tend to agree with behaviouristic ideas. I don’t believe that we really have freedom of choice. Everything we do is – in a way – a motivated reaction to something else. And this is why I don’t think that thoughts and ideas and utterances can just pop up in your head, especially in a situation that is as context-driven as conversation.

Yeah. It’s my spine and some gratuitous Luna. The X-ray was taken when they diagnosed me with scoliosis and I surrounded myself with it to remind myself to stay in shape and fight the effects of that condition.
I’ll probably change my avatar soon. The spine will stay, though. It’s kind of my trademark.

I had no idea that this game existed. SO I watched the trailer. The trailer showed me nothing but nice graphics and repeated attack animations. So I have to assume that it has very simplistic combat, which is not what a Beat-em.up should have.

Trailers are there to make people go: “Damn! That’s an interesting game. I want to play that.” It should show what the game is about. This trailer showed me that this game is about graphics. Nothing else. It did not manage get me interested at all. I see no reason to invest my time in finding out more about it. It’s not my job to make up for bad presentation strategies by the developers.
