Had a crazy glitch in the boss room I went to attack a guy near the edge of the map and the hole in the floor turned to stairs. The enemies and my character disappeared then I just suddenly died.
Must be some kind of glitch. The game says to clear a path to the south side of the witches castle. I did but it never advanced past that mission. So I cut down all the trees in the game but still nothing.
