It should be noted the code written here is in ActionScript 1. When you create a new file you have to create a Flash File for ActionScript 2 or lower for it to work. I will also post my opinion that this method will indeed work. However, in the long run I think it will be more beneficial to learn the method used by the Kongregate tutorials. They are using ActionScript 3, so it is a newer version and will have a longer lifespan. They are also utilizing Object Oriented Programming methodologies which as you get into harder, more in depth projects, you will find is more beneficial. Again, just my opinion and it's always cool to see people getting into code :)

You're off to a good start. A couple things you may want to consider though. Right now it appears you have the bubbles appearing above the bar on the bottom on the _y axis. You may want to try having them appear on the stage, hidden behind the bar before they start moving up. That way they don't just snap on the screen. For your scoring, you may want to reward more points for shooting the bubbles closer to the bottom of the screen. That will make it more competitive and make having high scoring be more valuable. It could be good to lower the alpha a bit on the bubbles, to make them a bit transparent. Good luck as you continue with your development!
