I see that you're having early game problems. I don't need or want to point them out. Instead, I'd like to say that I'm enjoying your game, I think you're doing a good job, and that I believe you should keep on improving.
You are correct! It is just that by the time I realized it was a thing, people were already playing it a lot and placed a lot of extremely high scores. If I were to change that thing for the better, I would ruin their success. The only way I saw is to leave it as is which doesn't look very fair, but in reality it is because everyone is losing points the moment it starts. What can I say... rookie game dev mistakes :-D
Btw, Castle Woodwarf 2 is soon coming to Armor Games and Kongregate, plus it is already there on Google Play store and Steam. Go get it!
I've gotta confess. I started playing, and I wondered how the hell this game got that kinda rating. Looked like anything else, honestly. Almost fell asleep at my keyboard (not a spoiler). Then, things started to change and wander in strange and interesting directions. Congrats, man - you pulled one on me. And, to anyone as quick to judge as I was: Sit back for a bit and give it a chance. It's a lot more than you think it is, and your vote should wait and mature a bit before you commit your judgment.
It's a hell of a slog, and after a while the pictures start repeating. I can see some strategy - but it seems like Moscow is very seriously out of reach, and not much fun once you get there. There's so much free internet pic content that you can afford to never repeat a pic. A lot of the skill boosts aren't really clear about what they do. Some of the upgrades are one-shot, when they could actually be multi-shot. There's a lot of balance that still needs to go on, here... and it does honestly feel like you're trying to monetize a game which isn't close to being complete. You've got a good concept, but it is being executed poorly. I think I'll sit and watch for a bit before I make my final vote, but so far, it's lukewarm, and I think you can do better.
@SSJ : To be really fair, I exported the game at the point of first reset, tried it your way, and then tried it my way again from the same point. Your method is better for the sincerely idle. My method is better for more active players. I'd call it a draw.
Protip for newcomers, a lot of us find it difficult to advance after the first reset. After rearranging my gold paint many times, my conclusion is that you're best off throwing it all into "Chance" and spending a little time arranging colors manually. That's the quickest way I've seen to advance so far. Add a bit to the other branches after you've gotten a bit more gold. This may change with the game, of course.
I'm really enjoying this game. I think, though, that the ability to rotate hardware might take something away from it. Getting a 100% CPU useage would become far too easy and take away the interest in using old hardware to fill in gaps. I suggest a compromise: Make perfect-rotation of hardware an ongoing research, with unique or bi-symmetrical shapes requiring three upgrades each to unlock all positions, and perfectly symmetrical shapes (like the "+" shape) not requiring any, for obvious reasons. These rotation options shouldn't be too easy to master, otherwise, there wouldn't be a point - but those whom enjoy the challenge can still have that, and those whom want rotational hardware can have that, too. Alternatively or additionally, you could reward players somehow for not using a rotation option - perhaps giving them a bigger productivity boost tied to the challenge of doing so. I've got a few more ideas, but I certainly don't want to bore anyone, so I'll call it quits, here.
I think you might want to review the math behind the game. A "Small Draugth" - which I assume to be a "Small Drought" reduced my production to 1/10 of usual, killing my colony aside from the 1 person that keeps it all up and running. Perhaps you meant 0.9 of usual? At the very least, let me eat the other villagers and keep two of my folks?
After I reset to try a different tactic, all the cooldowns vanished, letting me work and sell as fast as I could click. Needless to say, the game went a lot quicker. ;)
Excellent improvement! I still really enjoy that, as a player, my focus has to shift as the game progresses, and I've got an idea or two about future additions - but I don't know how far you want to really take this. If you're happy, then I'm happy. If you want to pick my brain, then go ahead and message me. Kudos!
Honestly? Not shabby. Simple as it may seem, the optimal strategy seems to shift a bit as the game progresses. A little more polish, some side upgrades, and the addition of the color orange, and you might have something here.
Thanks for this great review! Gamers should understand that it is comments like these that help improve the game. (Obviously bug reporting is necessary as well.) Thanks again, I will continue to fix the game to run on all browsers and then add on some new features.
The game is genius in terms of logic. I'd encourage any budding engineer or mathematician to play it... if only for the experience! It may need some paltry mundane corrections, but despite it's humble exterior, at its base - it is magnificent. Please continue.
To the makers of this game: Your vision is fantastic. Your delivery is spot-on. I love this game, I really do. Your need for income... could use a change. I understand completely - nobody can earn their way in the world by providing all of this for free. I'm not saying that I wouldn't pay for this game series. What I will say, however, is that I'd rather pay directly than pay with my wasted time.
That's right. I'd rather pay $5 through Steam, and play the game without any ads, in a somewhat less-grind situation. You've already established this game. Time to make it professional. All that your ad-fishing will do is alienate people whom loved the first two iterations.
